Character Descriptions
HIP BONES AND COOL WHIP is a one-woman performance piece about anorexia...relating the author's own touching and very funny story about her own battle with this eating disorder while she was in college.

The actress playing the role should be in the 30-45 year old age range...and be able to handle the complexities of playing several characters at one time...conversing with each other...in the style of Lily Tomlin in her one woman shows...THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF INTELLIGENT LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE and APPEARING NIGHTLY.

The various characters of the story are the young woman herself (Shelly)...the older woman who tells the story(Rochelle)...the voice in her head...her Mother...her Father...her doctors...her teachers...and a few men in her life. It is a challenging and virtuoso role. All the characters are written with skill, wit and compassion.
